Since 1 May 2026, when its rules took effect, the Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Act, 2025 has banned online money games nationwide. It reaches three activities separately — offering such games, advertising them and processing payments for them — and the old skill-versus-chance argument, on which most earlier Indian gaming rules hinged, no longer decides anything. Social games and e-sports are carved out and handled by a central authority.
What that means in practice:
- Old answers that say "legal in most states" or "depends on your state" describe the situation before May 2026.
- An operator being reachable from India is not the same as it being permitted there. Addresses refusing Indian connections — like the "403 Forbidden" page on the sportsbook address — fit that picture.
- The law is aimed at operators, advertisers and payment firms. If you are unsure where you stand personally, that is a question for a lawyer, not for a betting guide.
Is Indibet real or fake?
